Happy new year, Gemini. Let’s start out by looking at your ruler Mercury this month. The sign and sector your ruler travels through each month are important in your solar chart, because they represent the areas and energies you resonate to the most. Mercury starts the month in Capricorn, your sign of willpower. It will be up to you to deliberately choose how to exercise your willpower, although I’ll give you a hint. These days, with Pluto in your willpower sector, it’s often financial willpower that needs to bulk up.
Typically, financial willpower in these circumstances means cutting spending and reducing debt. For example, if you already have a car that runs, the planets in Capricorn would urge you to keep it, rather than going out and buying a new one just because you’re tired of the old one. Pluto in Capricorn is very big on reducing waste, recycling, being thrifty and prudent, generally extracting the maximum value from what you already have rather than investing in something new. The planets in Capricorn are also very keen on identifying potential problems before they develop into real and inescapable ones. Your ruler Mercury is in this part of your chart until the 18th.
On the 18th, Mercury switches his attention to the more intellectually minded sign of Aquarius. This energy is more about language and thinking, reading, writing, publishing, communicating, pondering world affairs, and perhaps disapproving of the way your nation’s politicians are screwing everything up. Mars is in this sector of your chart also (all month), and Mars is a bit grumpy and unhappy with public affairs in January. Mars as a planet of anger is also a planet of motivation to action. If you’re unhappy with the way things are, Mars would like to try to do something about it in January, rather than moping around being depressed.
There are some other influences. Venus is in the forecasting sign of Sagittarius until the 10th. Sagittarius is your relationship sign. Theoretically, this is a good time to set goals or make plans with your significant other, as the two of you are more likely to be in sync during the first part of January. If you’re single, the combination of Mars in Aquarius and Uranus in Aries could make January the month when a sexual attraction to a friend becomes a sexual relationship with a friend.
Jupiter in your own sign also gains strength throughout January, stationing on January 30 before moving forward again. Because Jupiter is in your sign, his influence is very personal and particular to you. Something important to you will take a turn in January or February, most likely for the better.
One final note. Neptune in your career sector slowly inches past the zero degree mark in Pisces. Neptune can have many different effects. Some of you will be edging toward greater artistic or imaginative expression; others will be trying to escape their present career paths, and some of you will be operating under delusions that things will work out better than they actually will. If you’re worried about the latter possibility, take a lesson from Mitt Romney, who was prone to similar delusions before he lost the last presidential election. Believe the outside polling data, not your own wishful projections.
