Usually nothing too interesting happens. I've had Saturn station on my North node for over a month without noticeable effect. However, occasionally a Uranus transit to the nodes will produce something. And there are other occasions when a node will be involved in an event that seems 'fated.' But usually only if the natal chart shows such indications. I don't, however, consider myself an expert on the nodes.
